Pakistan Army Accuses Afghanistan of Harboring Militant Attacks Against Pakistan

Senior commanders of the Pakistan Army have announced that Afghan territory, under Taliban control, has become a base for militant groups to organize and launch attacks against Pakistan. The Pakistani forces continue their targeted operations to counter these threats. The commanders emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Taliban administration to prevent the use of Afghan soil for attacks on Pakistan.

These statements were made on Monday, July 7, at a meeting held in Rawalpindi, attended by 276 army commanders and chaired by Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Pakistan Armed Forces. According to a statement released by the Pakistan Army, the country’s forces will continue their precision operations under the framework of “Operation Ghazb lil Haq” against threats originating from Afghan soil.

The Pakistani military commanders also declared that Islamabad reserves the right to defend its citizens against terrorism. They stressed strengthening governance structures in areas affected by insecurity, emphasizing that these structures should focus on providing public services, the welfare of residents, and severing the links among terrorism, organized crime, and political support.

In response, the Taliban administration has denied these allegations, stating that militant attacks against Pakistan are an internal matter of that country and Afghanistan bears no responsibility for resolving Pakistan’s security challenges. However, United Nations Security Council reports have confirmed the presence of several Pakistani militant groups and some foreign jihadist factions in Afghanistan — findings the Taliban leadership has consistently rejected.

These ongoing accusations come amid escalating security tensions between the two sides in recent months. The absence of a transparent mechanism to hold armed groups accountable has heightened concerns over regional stability.
