Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: American Taxes Fund Gaza Killings

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has stated that American taxpayers’ money is being spent in the Gaza war for what she called the “genocide of Palestinians,” and now U.S. citizens are demanding accountability on how this aid is being used.
She made these remarks in response to debates surrounding the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and her proposed amendment to halt the transfer of defensive and offensive weapons to Israel. According to her, after the American public witnessed the use of weapons funded by U.S. dollars in the Gaza conflict, demands for transparency and oversight over military aid have increased.
Ocasio-Cortez emphasized that oversight of U.S. military aid is not limited to Israel. She added that she has also proposed amendments related to military aid to countries such as Brazil, Colombia, and Bangladesh to broaden the scope of accountability.
The congresswoman further stated that the discussion concerns “the United States’ commitment to democratic values” and views it as transcending partisan competition between Democrats and Republicans.
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez, along with Greg Casar, another Democratic representative in the House, announced their support for an amendment aimed at cutting U.S. financial assistance to the Israeli military.
According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties in 2016, the United States has committed to providing $38 billion in military aid to Israel over a ten-year period. Of this amount, approximately $3.3 billion is allocated annually, and the agreement expires in 2028.
