US Congressman Calls for Complete Halt to Aid for Israel

Greg Casar, a Democratic member of the US Congress, has announced his support for an amendment aimed at stopping the allocation of American taxpayer funds to Israel. He stated that he would vote in favor of the proposal, which seeks to cut off both financial and military assistance from the United States to Israel.

Casar wrote on the social media platform X that the Israeli government has committed “war crimes” in the Gaza conflict and has also pushed the US toward confrontation with Iran. According to him, American citizens should not bear the cost of providing more weapons to Benjamin Netanyahu.

The congressman emphasized that the amendment, in its current form, would halt not only approximately $3.3 billion in annual military aid but also nearly $50 million in diplomatic budgets related to Israel. He stressed that the primary focus of the measure is to prevent the allocation of “billions of dollars in military funding” to Israel.

The United States is the largest provider of military aid to Israel. Under a decade-long memorandum of understanding between the two parties, Washington supplies Israel with $3.8 billion in annual security aid, which includes $3.3 billion in foreign military financing and $500 million for joint missile defense programs such as the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow systems.

In addition to this fixed assistance, since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, the US Congress has approved several emergency aid packages worth tens of billions of dollars, including weapons, ammunition, and defense systems.

Casar’s remarks come amid growing criticism within the United States, especially among some Democratic lawmakers, regarding continued military support for Israel following the Gaza war, with increasing calls to reconsider these aid commitments.
