Afghan National Liberation Front Claims Attack on Waygal District Center in Nuristan

The Afghan National Liberation Front has announced that its forces attacked the center of Waygal District in Nuristan Province in the early hours of Tuesday, June 22. In a statement, the front said the operation began around 1 A.M. and lasted approximately 20 minutes.

According to the statement, as a result of this “guerrilla operation,” Taliban administration forces suffered “heavy casualties and losses.” However, the front emphasized that it does not yet have an accurate count of the casualties.

The front also alleged that Taliban administration forces use administrative offices and civilian facilities in Nuristan as sleeping quarters and night assembly points. If confirmed, this raises concerns about the military use of civilian locations.

The National Liberation Front added that none of its forces were harmed in the attack. Meanwhile, Taliban officials have not yet commented on the matter.

The Taliban administration has consistently denied the physical presence of armed resistance fronts in the country and usually does not respond to claimed attacks by these groups. However, the United Nations has confirmed several attacks claimed by the Afghan National Liberation Front and the Afghanistan National Resistance Front in some of its reports.
