Rising Rent in Kabul Adds Severe Financial Pressure on Families
Rental prices in many Afghan cities have remained high in recent months, becoming a serious concern for families. In Kabul, residents say the rising housing costs have increased their economic burdens, significantly reducing their ability to pay rent.
Meanwhile, officials at some rental transaction offices in Kabul cite the widespread return of migrants, acquisition of several homes, and increased housing demand as the main reasons behind sustained high rents. They note that in some areas, the number of renters exceeds the availability of homes, which has driven prices up.
Despite this situation, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has not issued any new statements regarding rent control or regulation. Earlier, based on an order from the Prime Minister’s office, after completing religious and administrative procedures, citizens in Kabul and several provinces were permitted to construct buildings. This measure aimed to address the homelessness problem among migrants.
Several months after that decision, residents report that there has been no noticeable impact on rent reduction and expect the Taliban administration to implement clear and practical measures to manage the housing crisis and support low-income families.
