Three Killed and Four Injured in Head-On Collision on Mazar-i-Sharif–Hairatan Highway in Balkh

At least three people were killed and four others injured in a collision between two Corolla vehicles on the Mazar-i-Sharif–Hairatan highway in Balkh province. The Taliban’s Balkh security command announced that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon.

According to information posted on the department’s X (formerly Twitter) page, the accident happened due to a head-on collision between the two vehicles. Officials attributed the cause of the accident to driver recklessness.

The traffic management department of the Taliban administration in Balkh also issued a statement urging drivers to avoid speeding and to obey traffic regulations. However, statistics on similar incidents indicate that verbal warnings alone have not been sufficient to prevent an increase in such accidents.

Traffic incidents have continuously claimed the lives of citizens in various provinces over recent years. Poor road conditions, a lack of traffic signs, and weak enforcement of laws are ongoing challenges raised by residents. These issues require practical attention and systematic planning from the authorities.
