Over $409,000 Smuggling Thwarted at Islam Qala Border Crossing

The General Directorate of Borders under the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has announced that the smuggling of 409,200 US dollars was prevented at the Islam Qala land port in Herat province.
According to released information, an individual attempted to illegally export this amount of money from the country but was identified and arrested by border police personnel. The identity of the detained individual has not yet been disclosed.
Officials stated that the accused is currently under investigation and interrogation for further inquiries. So far, no additional details have been provided regarding how the money was discovered or its intended destination.
Islam Qala port is considered one of the most important trade crossings in western Afghanistan. In recent years, there have been reports of attempts to illegally transfer foreign currencies through this route. However, the Taliban administration has yet to provide comprehensive and transparent statistics on the volume of currency smuggling and the outcomes of judicial follow-ups in this sector.
