UNDP Support Creates 146 Jobs in Herat’s Khatam al-Anbiya District

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that with its support, several economic initiatives in the Khatam al-Anbiya district of Herat province have led to the creation of 146 job opportunities and strengthened family livelihoods.

According to the agency, women’s savings groups established with UNDP support have successfully launched a tailoring workshop. This workshop has provided employment for 16 women and generates a monthly income of 112,000 Afghanis.

The UNDP added that alongside this workshop, other supportive projects have been implemented in the area, which in addition to creating jobs, have helped protect nearly one thousand acres of agricultural land.

The agency stated that the aim of such programs is to bolster the local economy, increase women’s participation in income-generating activities, and support the agricultural sector in vulnerable areas. Herat province, in western Afghanistan, is one where a significant portion of the population depends on agriculture and small industries.
