Pakistani Taliban Announces Three-Day Ceasefire for Eid al-Adha

Noor Wali Mehsud, leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has announced a three-day ceasefire to mark Eid al-Adha. In his Eid message on Saturday, the 2nd of Jawza, he stated that military operations would be halted on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, coinciding with the days of the festival. However, he warned that the TTP would respond if the Pakistan military takes any action during this period.

According to Pakistani media reports, following the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan, TTP attacks against security forces and government facilities in Pakistan have significantly increased. These attacks have mainly occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, particularly in border and insecure areas, raising widespread security concerns within Pakistan.

The TTP’s assaults primarily involve ambushes, targeted bombings, and shootings against police and army personnel, with some incidents also causing civilian casualties. The continuation of these attacks has posed serious challenges to the stability of the border regions.

The Pakistani government has repeatedly claimed that the TTP uses Afghan soil to organize and carry out attacks and that it receives support from the Taliban administration in Kabul. The Taliban authorities deny these allegations, describing Pakistan’s security issues as an internal matter. Nevertheless, critics argue that the lack of transparent and effective measures to control militant group activities in Afghanistan has increased distrust and escalated regional tensions.
