Shooting Near White House Leaves Two Injured; Suspect Killed

A security incident near the White House in Washington resulted in two people being injured and the suspect in the shooting dying from his injuries. US security officials announced that the situation at the scene is under control and no security personnel were harmed.

According to American media reports, dozens of gunshots were heard in the vicinity of the US presidential residence, leading to an emergency security alert and the area being locked down. US Secret Service agents went on full alert, and journalists at the scene were moved into the press briefing room.

Reuters, citing a law enforcement official, reported that the suspect fired at police officers at a checkpoint near the White House. CNN, quoting the US Secret Service, confirmed that the individual died after being wounded.

US news network CBS News identified the suspect as Nasir Best, a 21-year-old resident of Maryland. Reports indicate that he had previous encounters with the US Secret Service and had reportedly claimed to be “Jesus Christ.”

The FBI Director confirmed that agency personnel are on-site supporting the investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the motive and details of the incident.
