Financial Times: Washington Seeks Removal of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel

The British newspaper Financial Times, citing current and former U.S. officials, has reported that Washington is considering and attempting to remove Miguel Díaz-Canel, the President of Cuba, as part of any potential deal with Havana. According to the report, if realized, this move could be seen as a symbolic shift in the political structure governing Cuba. The Financial Times, quoting its sources, claimed that this matter is part of the United States’ political calculations regarding Cuba.
In contrast, the Cuban government and people have consistently rejected any foreign interference in their internal affairs and emphasized the preservation of national sovereignty and political independence. Cuban officials have previously stated that only the Cuban people decide on the leadership structure and political system of their country.
According to the United Nations Charter, interference in the internal affairs of independent countries is prohibited and considered a violation of international law—a principle that is consistently cited in political disputes among nations.
