Taliban Environmental Officials Visit Global Urban Forum in Azerbaijan

The General Directorate for Environmental Protection under the Taliban administration announced that Matiullah Khalil, the director general of the agency, led an official delegation to Azerbaijan. The delegation visited the exhibition of the state-owned company “Clean City” and the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to the agency’s newsletter, during the visits, discussions were held about exchanging cooperation and experiences in waste management, environmental protection, urban cleanliness, and sustainable solutions. The participating officials also emphasized the importance of utilizing urban experiences to improve environmental conditions.

The World Urban Forum is recognized as an international event focused on urban development challenges such as pollution, waste management, and sustainable city growth. Participation in such programs offers opportunities to become acquainted with modern urban models.

However, environmental experts consistently stress that Afghanistan’s environmental challenges—including waste accumulation in major cities and the lack of standard waste management systems—require practical measures and sustained investment within the country. Citizens expect to see tangible results of such efforts in various urban areas.
