Explosion in South Waziristan Kills Three, Including Tribal Leader Malik Tariq

Pakistan police reported that an explosion on Monday, May 18, in the city of Wana, the administrative center of South Waziristan, killed at least three people and injured four others. According to security officials, the blast occurred in Rustam Market and targeted Malik Tariq, a well-known leader of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribes, who was killed in the attack.

Local police stated that the bomb detonated when the vehicle carrying Malik Tariq had stopped near a commercial complex. The explosion was so powerful that the vehicle was completely destroyed and nearby shops were also damaged.

Security forces immediately sealed off the area, and the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment. Local residents said the blast caused widespread panic among the market’s people.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Administrative and security officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have announced the launch of a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and any possible networks behind the incident.

Pakistan’s tribal regions have witnessed similar attacks in recent years targeting tribal figures allied with the government, raising concerns over the security situation in these areas.
