China and Qatar Consult on Afghanistan’s Political and Economic Situation

Officials from China, Qatar, and representatives of the Taliban administration in Doha have held talks concerning bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and Afghanistan’s political situation. These meetings focused on expanding trade relations, humanitarian aid, and reviewing the country’s ongoing developments.
The acting head of the Taliban’s embassy in Doha met with China’s special envoy for Afghanistan and his accompanying delegation. In this session, both sides exchanged views on strengthening political ties between Kabul and Beijing, developing economic cooperation, and continuing China’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
Simultaneously, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country’s minister of state for foreign affairs also held a separate meeting with China’s special envoy. According to this statement, the discussions centered on the latest developments in Afghanistan and ways to coordinate joint efforts to ensure security and stability in the country.
In recent years, China has maintained relations with the Taliban administration and emphasized economic cooperation and infrastructure projects. This comes while the Taliban administration continues to face significant political and economic challenges within Afghanistan, with its international legitimacy remaining unresolved.
