UN-Habitat Reports Threefold Urban Expansion in Zaranj Over Last 20 Years

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced that the built-up areas of Zaranj city in Nimroz province have more than tripled over the past 20 years, reflecting rapid urban growth in this part of the country.

According to the agency, if this urban expansion is accompanied by smart urban planning and targeted investment, it could lead to improved housing conditions, enhanced urban services, and a better quality of life for residents.

Zaranj, as the capital of Nimroz province and one of the important cities in western Afghanistan, has experienced population growth and residential development in recent years. Urban experts emphasize that proper management of this process plays a crucial role in preventing uncontrolled sprawl and infrastructure challenges.

UN-Habitat also stresses the necessity of building cities that are accessible and efficient for all citizens—cities where essential services, a healthy environment, and equal opportunities are provided for everyone.
