Iran’s Araghchi Accuses US of Blocking Strait of Hormuz, Vows Open Passage for Commercial Ships

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that from Tehran’s perspective, the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all commercial vessels and that Iran has not created any obstacles in this route. He held the United States responsible for imposing a blockade on this vital waterway.

In an interview with Press TV, Araghchi said that the Strait of Hormuz is currently suffering more than from any other factor due to what he described as ‘US aggression and the imposed blockade.’ According to him, the current situation stems from actions taken by the United States.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized that commercial ships are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz but must cooperate with Iranian naval forces. He added that Tehran has not created any barriers in this passage.

Araghchi also expressed hope that with the removal of what he termed the ‘illegal blockade imposed by the United States,’ the situation in the Strait of Hormuz would return to normal. The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the region’s most strategic energy transit routes.
