883 Drug Addicts Referred to Treatment Centers Across Afghan Provinces

Authorities have announced that 883 individuals suffering from addiction have been transferred to drug treatment and rehabilitation centers following separate operations by anti-narcotics forces in several provinces of the country.

These individuals were identified and collected during operations in the provinces of Balkh, Kunduz, Ghazni, Kandahar, Farah, Nimroz, Herat, Uruzgan, Ghor, Daikundi, and Helmand. No details have been released regarding the duration of treatment, conditions of care, or the types of medical services provided to these individuals.

Drug addiction has become a significant social challenge in recent years, with many residents attributing its spread to unemployment, poverty, and psychological problems resulting from years of war.

While the Taliban administration has repeatedly stated its commitment to combating drugs, social activists emphasize that the transfer of addicts to treatment centers must respect human dignity, provide access to standardized health services, and be accompanied by transparent oversight to ensure these measures lead to real and sustainable rehabilitation.
