Trump Claims Cuba Has Asked for U.S. Help, Says Washington Ready to Negotiate

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, claimed on Tuesday via a message on the social media platform Truth Social that Cuba has requested assistance from the U.S. and that Washington is ready to engage in negotiations on the matter.
Trump wrote that “no Republican has ever talked to him about Cuba” and asserted that the country “is on a downward path.” He emphasized his intention to engage in dialogue on this issue while also noting that he is heading to China.
These remarks come amid ongoing criticism of Washington’s foreign policy, especially toward certain countries, for its reportedly dual approach of claiming diplomacy while simultaneously applying political and economic pressure. In some instances, U.S. military actions during indirect negotiations with counterparts have raised questions about the administration’s commitment to dialogue.
On the other hand, Miguel Díaz-Canel, the President of Cuba, has previously strongly criticized U.S. policies against his country. He stated that the Cuban people are aware of the intense pressures and what he called Washington’s “hostile actions,” which will not deter them from their path.
Díaz-Canel has also described the U.S. sanctions and economic blockade as “a unilateral aggression” against the Cuban people and emphasized that Havana seeks peace, independent sovereignty, and freedom from any foreign intervention. According to him, Washington’s policies have played a central role in exacerbating the country’s economic and humanitarian problems.
