Qatar Emphasizes Mediation and Freedom of Navigation in Call with Iran

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, discussing peace efforts and ongoing developments. Both sides emphasized support for peaceful solutions and strengthening mediation to end the crisis.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister stressed the necessity of sending a “positive pulse” from all parties for the success of mediation efforts. He also described freedom of navigation as an established principle and warned that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure tool could deepen the crisis.
The statement added that maritime security is a fundamental pillar of regional stability and security and must not be compromised under any circumstances. The Prime Minister of Qatar also underscored adherence to laws and consideration of the interests of regional countries and their peoples, viewing this as a factor in strengthening collective security.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on a cargo ship in the country’s territorial waters, labeling it a clear violation of the principle of freedom of navigation and international law. The ministry emphasized that such actions dangerously escalate tensions.
According to official sources, the phone conversation took place within the framework of diplomatic consultations between the two countries regarding regional developments.
