New Overpass Constructed in Central Kabul to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
The Kabul Municipality has announced that the construction of the main foundations for a new overpass in front of the Kabul provincial office is underway. Prefabricated girders for the bridge will soon be ready for installation. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion in one of the busiest areas of the capital.
According to released information, the bridge will be 235 meters long, 18 meters wide, and 6.8 meters high. Additionally, 472 meters of handrails have been planned. The Kabul Municipality’s Department of Maintenance and Care is currently constructing six sturdy foundations for it.
The project design also includes a circular ramp with a radius of 33 meters and a length of 150 meters to manage vehicle flow more smoothly. The bridge will have four driving lanes—two lanes for each direction—combined with circular ramps that allow uninterrupted and non-conflicting vehicle movement.
Salangwat Road, known as one of the most congested routes in central Kabul, experiences heavy vehicle traffic daily. It is expected that upon completion of this overpass, traffic disorder will decrease on the routes leading to Shahr-e Naw, Deh Afghanan, and surrounding areas, making transportation easier for residents.
