Afghanistan’s National Archives Digitizes Hundreds of Historical Documents

The Ministry of Information and Culture under Taliban administration has announced that Afghanistan’s National Archives digitized hundreds of historical documents, manuscripts, and books in the year 1404 of the Solar Hijri calendar (2025-2026). According to the ministry, during this period, 741 books, 232 manuscripts, 358 historical decrees, and one genealogical document were digitally recorded and preserved.

Based on the information provided, 830 books, 60 manuscripts, and four historical decrees were also restored and rebound in the same year. These efforts aim to prevent the deterioration and damage of ancient documents.

Officials further stated that during the past year, 32 new manuscripts were added to the National Archives, enriching the country’s collection of historical documents. The National Archives is considered one of the most important institutions for preserving Afghanistan’s written heritage.

The manuscripts and historical documents housed in the archives, some of which date back several centuries, reflect the country’s cultural and civilizational heritage. Given the challenging conditions for preserving historical artifacts in recent years, experts emphasize the continuation of standard protection processes and transparent researcher access to these resources.
