Thousands of Kilograms of Smuggled Goods Seized Across Four Afghan Provinces

The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance has announced that in the past two weeks, thousands of kilograms of smuggled goods were discovered and seized in the provinces of Kandahar, Nimroz, Nangarhar, and Helmand. According to a statement released by the ministry, these items were identified while entering the country illegally.
The seized goods include medical and veterinary medicines, refrigerators, clothing, carpets, electrical appliances, bedding, chocolates, soap, milk, potatoes, pickles, ketchup, necklaces, steel tools, acid, sanitary pads, energy drinks, bottled water, mobile phones, vegetables, plastic bags, and vinegar.
According to the source, these goods, along with individuals connected to the case, have been handed over to the relevant customs departments for further investigation.
However, the increase in smuggling incidents at the country’s border crossings indicates that effective control over ports and highways continues to face challenges. Economic experts believe that the lack of transparency and weak regular supervision may pave the way for the continuation of such activities; an issue on which the Taliban administration has so far not provided clarity regarding sustainable prevention measures.
