UNICEF Opens Two New Water Supply Networks in Ghor Province

Two water supply networks, supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), have been completed and commissioned in Ghor province. These projects were implemented in the provincial center of Ghor and the Dawlatina district, providing access to safe drinking water for 570 families.

Bakhtar News Agency, which operates under the administration of the Taliban, reported on Saturday, 12th of Sowr, that the construction cost of these two networks reached 15 million Afghanis. According to this source, with the activation of these facilities, residents of the mentioned areas now have access to clean water.

Access to safe drinking water remains a serious challenge in many provinces of Afghanistan, with a lack of basic infrastructure affecting the lives of thousands of families. International organizations have repeatedly emphasized the need for sustainable investment in this sector.

Last year, UNICEF announced that eight out of every ten people in Afghanistan drink contaminated water; a statistic that highlights the widespread crisis of safe water in the country and underscores the need for fundamental and ongoing measures.
