Taliban Distributes 1,237 Residential Land Plots to Returning Displaced Families in Nangarhar

The Taliban’s Department of Urban Planning and Housing has announced the distribution of 1,237 residential land plots to displaced families returning to Nangarhar province. According to the department, this initiative aims to provide permanent housing and basic facilities for these families.
The land plots were handed over to eligible families during an official gathering held in the Khanki area of Bihsud district by Mullah Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, the acting head of the department. Speaking at the event, he stated that the Taliban administration is committed to ensuring shelter, basic services, and suitable living conditions for returnees.
The acting head of the Urban Planning and Housing Department also emphasized that distributing these plots will establish organized and dignified housing for the families, enabling them to resume normal lives.
However, several monitoring organizations have previously stressed the importance of transparency in the land distribution process and the provision of essential services in newly established settlements. Urban experts believe that sustainable housing cannot be achieved by land distribution alone and requires infrastructure such as potable water, electricity, schools, and healthcare centers — issues that the Taliban administration is expected to address in practice.
