36 Public Infrastructure Projects Worth 12 Billion Afghanis Launched in Kandahar

Officials from the Kandahar Public Works Department announced the launch of 36 infrastructure projects totaling 12 billion Afghanis during the inauguration of new toll stations on the Kandahar–Uruzgan and Kandahar–Spin Boldak highways. According to them, 24 projects are managed under the Public Works Department, while the other 12 are implemented by the Taliban administration’s leadership office.

Aziz-ur-Rahman Sharif, head of Kandahar Public Works, stated that these projects include the construction of the Kandahar–Spin Boldak railway line, as well as the rehabilitation of major highways, bridges, and culverts in southern regions of the country. He added that work on these projects is progressing simultaneously across various sectors.

The local official estimated the total cost for these plans to be approximately 12 billion Afghanis. However, no details were provided regarding funding sources or oversight mechanisms for budget expenditure, a matter that currently calls for greater transparency from the Taliban administration.

Several drivers in Kandahar noted that road repairs and the establishment of toll collection systems could ease transportation.

Officials also mentioned that following the completion of the 25-kilometer Uruzgan–Kandahar road, work on the remaining sections of this route will begin next year. These highways are considered key transit routes in southern Afghanistan, playing a vital role in local travel and the transit of commercial goods.
