Taliban Administration Begins Assessment of Oil Waste in Government Departments

The Standards and Quality Department under the Taliban administration has announced the initiation of the first-ever process to assess the losses and waste of oil and liquefied gas materials within ministries and governmental offices across the country. According to this department, this measure was implemented following a directive from the Taliban leadership.
In the initial case, the Directorate of Assessment of Oil Losses and Waste, affiliated with the Directorate of Consumption Standards, has measured and calculated 10,725 kilograms of liquefied gas related to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations. This process was carried out technically at the official request of the ministry and based on provided documents, resulting in a determined amount of loss.
Officials from the Standards and Quality Department state that the goal of this initiative is to transparently regulate resources and accurately measure consumption levels within government offices. However, no detailed information has been released regarding the final results of the assessment, the exact amount of confirmed waste, or how the findings will be followed up.
While the management of public resources and financial transparency remain serious demands of citizens, experts emphasize that such initiatives will only be effective if their reports are regularly published and accessible to the public, and if a clear accountability mechanism is in place. The Standards and Quality Department has said this program will continue in other governmental offices.
