Hundreds Protest NATO Bases in Madrid, Calling for Withdrawal

Hundreds of Spanish residents gathered in Madrid on Saturday to demand the removal of NATO military bases from Spain. The protesters criticized the military presence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization coalition on Spanish soil and emphasized the need to reassess the country’s defense policies.

This demonstration took place amid reports that the United States is reviewing new options regarding certain NATO member states. Washington is reportedly evaluating actions that could affect countries it believes have not supported its recent military approaches.

Among the options discussed is the possible suspension of Spain’s membership in the alliance, a move that, if implemented, could impact Spain’s role within Europe’s defense framework.

Spain had previously expressed opposition to US and Israeli military actions against Iran and banned the transit of American aircraft and military equipment through its airspace en route to the Middle East. These positions have cast a shadow over Madrid’s relations with some of its military partners in recent months.
