Trade Between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan Surges by 77% in Early 2026

Kazakhstani media have reported that in the first quarter of 2026, goods transfers between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan increased by 77%, reaching one million tons. Additionally, Kazakhstan’s wheat exports to Afghanistan grew by 37% during the same period.

According to these reports, the statistics were presented during a joint meeting between Afghan and Kazakhstani officials. In this meeting, both sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade transportation and developing related infrastructure.

Kazakhstan is regarded as a major grain exporter in Central Asia, and Afghanistan is one of its key wheat markets. The increase in goods transfers could positively affect the supply of raw materials and stabilize domestic markets in Afghanistan.

However, experts consistently emphasize that sustaining such cooperation requires more transit facilitation and transparency in the management of ports and border crossings by the Taliban administration—a crucial factor for sustainable growth in regional trade.
