EU Migration Hits Record High with 2 Million Increase in One Year

A recent report by the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM) reveals that the number of migrants in the European Union reached 64.2 million in 2025, marking an increase of 2.1 million compared to the previous year—the highest level recorded to date.

According to the report, the upward migration trend to EU member countries has continued steadily over the past decade and a half. In 2010, the migrant population within the EU was nearly 40 million, highlighting a significant growth when compared to current figures.

Germany remains the most important destination for migrants among EU member states. The number of migrants in Germany has risen from nearly 10 million in 2010 to approximately 18 million in 2025.

Following Germany, France and Spain rank next. Published data indicate that the migrant population in France has reached 9.6 million, while in Spain it stands at 9.5 million.

The European Union, comprising 27 European countries, implements common economic and social policies. Migration has been one of the most contentious issues within the Union in recent years.
