Speculation Grows Over New Round of Iran-US Talks in Islamabad

Two security sources in Pakistan have indicated that, based on some field signs, a new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States may take place in Islamabad before Friday. However, no official from either side or the host country has yet confirmed any specific date.

These sources, speaking to Al Jazeera, stated that their assessment is based on several concurrent developments. According to them, the landing of two heavy American transport aircraft of the type C-17 Globemaster at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, near Pakistan’s capital, is considered one of these signs.

It has also been reported that roads leading from Islamabad International Airport to the secured area known as the “Red Zone” have been temporarily closed, indicating heightened security measures in these areas. The Red Zone houses major government and diplomatic institutions of Pakistan.

According to the same sources, the Serena and Marriott hotels in Islamabad are also evacuating their guests and will not accept new bookings until Friday. The Serena Hotel had previously hosted the first round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, which took place on April 11.

In recent days, some media outlets had reported the possibility of holding a new round of talks by Monday, but today a Pakistani network, citing senior government sources, reported that the exact timing of the next negotiations has not yet been determined.

Negotiations between Iran and the United States have been held in recent months to discuss contentious issues between the two countries, with Pakistan acting as the host and facilitator. Despite the speculation, the fate and timing of the upcoming round of talks remain uncertain.
