Kabul and Moscow Discuss New Banking Cooperation Amid Economic Ties

The Afghan Embassy in Moscow announced that Gul Hassan Hassan, the Taliban administration’s diplomatic representative in Russia, met with Vladimir Chistykhin, First Deputy of the Russian Central Bank, to discuss banking and economic cooperation. According to the embassy’s statement, the main focus of the meeting was to expand banking relations between the two countries and explore ways to strengthen economic interactions. The discussion emphasized establishing direct relationships between banks and facilitating money transfers for traders. The Taliban representative also underscored the need to strengthen Afghanistan’s banking sector, develop technical cooperation, and provide professional training for banking staff—a sector that has faced serious challenges in recent years due to sanctions and international restrictions. In response, the Russian Central Bank deputy assured that Moscow is prepared to support strengthening Afghanistan’s banking system and provide the necessary facilities. However, no specific details about the implementation mechanisms of these cooperations have been disclosed.
