Taliban Confirms Attack on Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue in Faryab Province

The Taliban administration has confirmed that an attack took place on Sunday evening, November 29, targeting the entrance of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Maimana, the provincial capital of Faryab in northern Afghanistan. A spokesperson for the Taliban stated that the assailant was ‘neutralized’ by guards while attempting to enter the building.

Following the incident, the Afghanistan Freedom Front claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging that two Taliban officials were killed and two others injured in a pre-planned operation that was carried out as officials were exiting the building.

Local sources in Faryab told media outlets that the explosion occurred near the Taliban’s First Security District in the province and was the result of a hand grenade being thrown from within the compound. According to these sources, there were no immediate reports of casualties in the initial moments following the blast.

While the Taliban acknowledged the incident, they refrained from providing specific details about the nature of the attack and have not responded to the Afghanistan Freedom Front’s claims. Attacks against Taliban forces and installations have been on the rise in various parts of the country in recent months.
