Iran and Taliban Officials Discuss Regional Ties in Phone Call

In a phone conversation between Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, and Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and assessed the current state of relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Araghchi emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and called for enhanced consultations among neighboring countries to manage crises and advance joint cooperation. He stated that strengthening regional ties could help reduce tensions and effectively counter cross-border threats.

Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Iran’s stance on regional developments and voiced support for efforts to increase diplomatic consultations. He stressed that the Taliban administration is open to dialogue with regional countries based on shared interests.

The call comes amid rising tensions in recent weeks between Taliban-led Afghanistan and Pakistan. Iran is one of the regional countries seeking to influence developments through multilateral diplomacy. However, questions regarding the Taliban administration’s legitimacy and performance at the regional level persist.
