Woman Arrested for Stealing Over Three Million Afghanis in Herat

The Herat Police Commander announced the arrest of a woman suspected of stealing more than three million Afghanis. This arrest came as a result of investigations conducted by the security agencies of the Taliban administration in the province.
Abdul Matin Qaneh, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stated that during initial interrogations, the woman confessed to committing the theft. According to him, the stolen amount was identified and returned to its rightful owner.
Although the Taliban administration claims to have identified and returned the money to its legal owner, the judicial process and transparency in such cases remain questionable due to the absence of a legitimate and independent judicial system.
This arrest comes amid growing concerns during the Taliban’s rule over increasing thefts, women’s oppression, and lack of fair access to judicial institutions among the local population.
