Karzai and Spanta Condemn Pakistan’s Airstrikes on Afghanistan as Sovereignty Violation

Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan, has strongly condemned the recent Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul, Paktika, Khost, and Nangarhar, describing them as a clear violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty and in contradiction with international law.
In a statement, Karzai emphasized that Pakistan’s “irresponsible and interventionist” policies towards Afghanistan and the region have not only increased unrest but have now also created extensive problems for Pakistan itself.
Meanwhile, Rangin Dadfar Spanta, former Foreign Minister and well-known political figure, responded to the suspicious timing of these airstrikes, noting that they coincided with Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India. Muttaqi currently serves as the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration. Spanta suggested that the strikes reflect a proxy competition between Pakistan and India in Afghanistan.
Expressing his views on the social media platform X, Spanta stressed that neither Pakistan nor India has ever pursued a peace-oriented policy towards Afghanistan, and that the ongoing instability results from these regional rivalries. He added, “Pakistan has provided extensive support to the Taliban, and we now see India supporting a significant portion of this movement, while innocent Afghan people pay the price of these conflicts with their blood.”
These remarks come at a time when the Taliban administration, despite its clear closeness to Pakistan, has not taken a definitive stance against the airstrikes. Most domestic institutions have also remained silent in response to this violation of national sovereignty, which has heightened the concerns of political activists and residents across the country.
