Mohammad Mohaqiq Urges End to Engagement Policy with Taliban Amid Rising Regional Security Threats

Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party of the People of Afghanistan, sharply criticized the Taliban administration’s support for extremist groups in a post on his official Facebook page, warning that the continuation of this situation will jeopardize regional security.
In his statement, Mohaqiq referred to recent clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani border forces, emphasizing that the Taliban have harbored over 21 terrorist groups inside Afghanistan and, by promoting extremism, have threatened the survival and stability of the region.
Mohaqiq called for an end to the engagement policy with the Taliban and urged regional countries and international organizations to prevent ignoring the realities of Afghan society, the expansion of the humanitarian crisis, and the ignition of new conflicts.
In his view, the continuation of the Taliban’s rule without national or international legitimacy has paved the way for increased insecurity and crises in neighboring countries. He explicitly mentioned the Taliban administration’s support for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), labeling this move as a cause of further tension and destruction in the region.
Mohaqiq also highlighted the Taliban’s neglect toward the Afghan people, stating that the people have been removed from power, replaced by overt support for international terrorists. He called on the global community and regional countries to end the policy of engagement with the Taliban and to act with unified consensus against extremist currents.
He warned that ignoring the existing realities in Afghanistan could exacerbate the humanitarian and security crisis in the region and once again turn the country into a safe haven for terrorists.
