UK, Canada, and Australia Officially Recognize the State of Palestine

In a major development in the international push to recognize Palestinian statehood, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia announced their official recognition of an independent State of Palestine through separate statements.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed the decision, stressing that Hamas has no place in Palestine’s future and that the UK will impose sanctions on the group. Expressing concern over fading hopes for a two-state solution, he said, “We must not allow this light to be extinguished.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described his country’s recognition of Palestine as a step toward lasting peace between Israel and Palestine, adding that Canada is prepared to cooperate in advancing this process.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also affirmed his government’s recognition of Palestine, calling it part of a coordinated international effort to strengthen the two-state initiative. He underscored that a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages are essential conditions for moving forward.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that France intends to officially recognize the State of Palestine during a meeting in New York on Monday.

This momentum comes as the Taliban government in Afghanistan remains silent on major international developments related to the rights of nations, continuing its state of global isolation.
