UNDP Distributes Mosquito-Repellent Wristbands to Earthquake-Displaced Families in Afghanistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with partner organizations, has distributed mosquito-repellent wristbands among families displaced by the recent earthquake in temporary camps. These wristbands, infused with insecticides, are designed to prevent the spread of diseases such as malaria and other insect-borne illnesses.

According to program officials, the initiative aims to provide basic health protection for families who lost everything in the earthquake. Many victims are currently living in emergency camps, where they are at heightened risk of contagious diseases, particularly those transmitted by mosquito bites.

Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, the public health system has significantly deteriorated, prompting international organizations to directly intervene to meet the population’s basic needs.

Although aiding displaced populations is a fundamental responsibility of any governing body, humanitarian agencies have largely taken on this role in the absence of effective action from the Taliban administration. Local residents have voiced frustration over their lack of access to healthcare centers, medicine, and other essential aid, calling for stronger and more sustained commitments from international organizations.
