Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban’s Chief of Army Staff, has responded to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about the possible return of American forces to Bagram Air Base. Fitrat stated that Afghanistan is an independent country and will not enter into any deal under pressure or coercion.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for the Taliban’s Air Force personnel on Saturday, Fitrat emphasized Afghanistan’s political and military independence, declaring that the nation is no longer reliant on any foreign power. He insisted that Afghans will not allow their fate to be determined by outsiders.
He further highlighted the readiness of Taliban forces to defend Afghan territory and national values, saying the people of Afghanistan have historically resisted invasions and external impositions, and this legacy will continue.
His remarks come after Trump, in several recent speeches, suggested the U.S. might seek to return to its former bases in Afghanistan, including Bagram — statements that have triggered sharp opposition from Taliban officials.
