UNRWA’s Vital Role in Delivering Emergency Aid in Gaza Emphasized

Filippo Grandi, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), has stressed that the agency continues to play a crucial role in providing essential services in the Gaza Strip, with no alternative currently available. He stated that health services, education, and humanitarian aid in the region are extensively carried out by UNRWA.

In an interview with the UN News Center before the end of his tenure, Grandi emphasized that the agency’s long-standing presence, the trust of the local community, and its operational capacity have made UNRWA one of the main pillars supporting Palestinian refugees in Gaza.

He explained that despite the complex humanitarian crises facing Gaza, UNRWA’s structure and network of services remain active, with millions of residents relying on it to access basic services.

Established decades ago to address the situation of Palestinian refugees, UNRWA is involved in education, health, and emergency aid distribution. Its role in Gaza’s humanitarian developments has consistently drawn the attention of international organizations.
