Over Two Million Electronic ID Cards Distributed in One Year in Afghanistan

The Directorate of Statistics and Information announced that in the solar year 1404 (March 2025-March 2026), a total of 2,028,079 electronic ID cards were issued nationwide. According to the directorate, this distribution was carried out through 84 electronic ID and Eas-service centers across various provinces.

Based on the provided statistics, among the recipients, 1,529,244 were men and 498,835 were women. This significant discrepancy between the number of men and women receiving the cards is notable, especially considering that in recent years, restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration have posed serious challenges to women’s access to public services.

The Directorate of Statistics added that the highest number of electronic ID cards issued last year was in Kabul province, where 500,456 cards were distributed.

According to the directorate’s information, since the start of the electronic ID card distribution process until now, a total of 17,487,000 people in the country have received this identity document. The electronic ID card serves as an official proof of identity and plays a vital role in citizens’ access to administrative, educational, and other official services. However, transparency in the distribution process and equal access for all citizens, particularly women, remain ongoing concerns and demands of the public.
