Taliban Forces Dismantle Part of Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Fence in Paktia

Taliban forces have dismantled part of the Pakistan border fence in the Zazi Aryob district of Paktia province. These forces shared several videos on social media showing the removal process of these border barriers.
This action followed Pakistan’s air strikes inside Afghan territory. Pakistani officials stated that these strikes targeted members of armed groups opposing Islamabad, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. However, reports indicate that civilians were also killed in some of these attacks.
In recent years, Pakistan has fenced large sections of its approximately 2,600-kilometer border with Afghanistan. Islamabad has stated that the purpose of this fencing is to strengthen border management and prevent the movement of opposition groups.
The border fencing issue has always been a source of tension between Kabul and Islamabad. The previous Afghan government rejected Pakistan’s fencing efforts, considering them contrary to the country’s national interests.
The recent dismantling of the border fence occurs while the Taliban administration has yet to present a clear and declared strategy for managing border tensions with Pakistan—a situation that has increased the concerns of residents in border areas about the recurrence of clashes and the risk to civilians.
