40% Surge in International Flight Ticket Prices from Afghanistan Amid Regional Tensions

The price of international flight tickets from Afghanistan has risen sharply, with some routes experiencing increases of 30 to 40 percent, according to officials from travel companies. This surge in prices is making travel increasingly difficult for citizens.

Travel company representatives attribute the price hikes to recent regional instability, changes in air routes, and rising global fuel prices. They further explain that some active airports are offering transit tickets at very high rates, and in some cases, pre-booked tickets have been canceled.

Ahmad Seer Rahmani, head of the Afghanistan Travel Companies Union, stated that many Afghans intending to travel abroad or return to Afghanistan are facing serious challenges. He emphasized that the rising costs are putting additional pressure on passengers and disrupting the process of essential travel.

Several travel companies in Kabul report a noticeable decline in customers as ticket prices increase, leading to a downturn in their business compared to the past. They warn that if this trend continues, the tourism service sector will confront a deeper recession.

Representatives of these companies have called on the Taliban administration to reconsider the taxation on airline tickets and to facilitate price reductions by implementing tax exemptions or reductions. They believe the absence of clear supportive policies from the Taliban government could exacerbate pressure on stakeholders in this sector and worsen the crisis.

Meanwhile, some Kabul residents who need to travel abroad for education, work, or medical treatment express concern about the rising costs, saying that if the situation persists, it could limit educational and healthcare opportunities for many.

Aviation experts explain that increased tensions in the Middle East have caused some airlines to alter their flight routes. This, combined with rising global fuel prices, has increased operational costs for flights, directly impacting the air ticket market in Afghanistan.
