Kim Jong Un Reappointed as North Korea’s State Affairs Commission Chairman

North Korean state media has reported that Kim Jong Un has been reappointed as the chairman of the country’s State Affairs Commission. The decision was made on Sunday during the first session of the Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang.

According to the report, members of the Supreme People’s Assembly also discussed reforms and amendments to the socialist constitution during the session. The agenda included the election of the State Affairs Commission chairman and other senior government leadership positions.

The Supreme People’s Assembly is recognized as North Korea’s legislative body that formally approves government policies. It usually convenes after the ruling Workers’ Party Congress to finalize the party’s decisions into law.

The state news agency also announced that the five-year economic plan, introduced at the 9th Party Congress in February, was reviewed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s sister, is notably absent from the list of State Affairs Commission members. She had been a member of this body since 2021, and her absence in the new lineup has drawn attention from observers.
