Herat and Turkmenistan Officials Discuss Expanding Trade Cooperation

The Herat provincial administration announced that Batur Yulov, the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Herat, met with Sheikh Maulana Islamjar, the governor of Herat province, to discuss expanding commercial and economic cooperation between the two sides. According to the source, the main focus of the meeting was the development of trade, facilitation of oil product transit, and strengthening economic relations.
In this meeting, the Herat governor stated that the Taliban administration is interested in increasing the level of cooperation with Turkmenistan so that Afghanistan can play a more prominent role as an important transit route in the region. He emphasized the significance of Afghanistan’s geographical position as a connecting bridge between Central Asia and South Asia.
In response, the Consul General of Turkmenistan assured that his country would have comprehensive cooperation with Afghanistan in the development of exports and imports and supports the efforts of local Herat officials in this regard.
Herat, due to its border with Turkmenistan, is considered one of Afghanistan’s most important trade gateways. However, experts have consistently emphasized that to effectively utilize these capacities, it is essential to establish transparent infrastructure, stability in economic policies, and constructive engagement with the region—issues that have faced challenges in recent years.
