Over 115,000 Displaced Amid Rising Afghanistan-Pakistan Border Clashes, UNHCR Reports

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that recent clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have escalated tensions in both countries, forcing thousands of families to flee their homes. According to the agency’s latest report, approximately 115,000 people have been displaced within Afghanistan, while nearly 3,000 have been displaced in Pakistan.

The agency stated that the continuation of fighting has led to widespread displacement in border areas, placing many families in dire humanitarian conditions. The report emphasizes that civilians have borne the brunt of the crisis.

UNHCR has called on the involved parties to allow civilians to cross the border safely to secure their protection. The agency stressed the importance of adhering to humanitarian principles and ensuring the protection of non-combatants.

Although tensions along the border between the two countries have a long history, the recent surge in conflicts has heightened concerns over the humanitarian situation in the border regions. It is expected that both the Taliban administration and Pakistani authorities will fulfill their responsibilities in protecting civilians and facilitate safe access and humanitarian assistance.
