Taliban Launches Nationwide Campaign to Plant 19 Million Saplings Ahead of New Year

The Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign to plant nearly 19 million saplings in Kabul and other provinces across the country, coinciding with the start of the new solar year.
Officials from the ministry stated that the program aims to increase vegetation cover, improve environmental conditions, and reduce the impacts of climate change. They added that the distribution and planting of saplings throughout various parts of the country will be conducted in coordination with local authorities.
Tree-planting campaigns have been held in previous years, but environmental experts have consistently emphasized that the care and maintenance of saplings after planting play a crucial role in the success of such programs. The absence of systematic irrigation and proper upkeep has, in some cases, led to the drying out of newly planted saplings.
Faced with serious challenges such as drought, decreasing water resources, and destruction of green areas, Afghanistan expects the Taliban administration to provide clearer details on the implementation methods, monitoring, and practical outcomes of this campaign alongside the announced figures to boost public confidence in its effectiveness.
