Saudi-Backed Forces Deploy at Aden Entrances Following Clashes with UAE-Aligned Elements

Amid escalating military tensions between Saudi- and UAE-supported factions in southern Yemen, forces affiliated with Riyadh have deployed at the entrances of the city of Aden. This move comes after intense clashes between the two sides across several areas within the city.

A Yemeni insider told the media that elements loyal to the self-declared Yemeni government, which receives Saudi support, took control over parts of Aden’s entrances and other strategic areas following confrontations with UAE-affiliated forces.

According to reports, UAE-backed forces attempted to enter the building and headquarters of the new self-declared Yemeni government led by Shaya’a al-Zindani, an action that escalated the clashes. Simultaneously, the so-called “National Shield” forces, operating with Saudi backing, repositioned themselves in the Khur Maksar and Crater districts to protect their positions against these armed movements.

These forces remain stationed in the Al-Wahdah area in the Lahj governorate. The clashes on Thursday resulted in one death and at least 20 injuries.

In a related development, Saudi forces had earlier entered Ataq, the capital of Shabwah governorate. These maneuvers are viewed as part of Saudi Arabia and its allied government’s security and military efforts to regain influence in southern Yemeni provinces following increased disputes with the UAE and its affiliated forces.
