Pakistan Does Not Officially Confirm Release of Three Soldiers Claimed by Taliban

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not officially confirmed the release of three Pakistani soldiers, despite claims by the Taliban administration that they have been freed. A spokesperson for the ministry emphasized that Islamabad is still awaiting precise information regarding the fate of these soldiers.

Tahir Andarabi, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, stated in a weekly press briefing that until a complete and reassuring confirmation of the release of any Pakistani soldier is obtained, the country cannot make a definitive statement on the matter. He added that investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, announced that three Pakistani soldiers, reportedly captured on October 12, 2025, during clashes along the disputed Durand Line, had been released in observance of Ramadan through mediation by Saudi Arabia. The Taliban administration further claimed that these individuals were handed over to a Saudi delegation in Kabul on Monday.

However, the lack of official confirmation from Pakistan has raised questions about the details of the process and the exact status of the detained personnel. The Taliban have not yet provided further information regarding the condition of the soldiers or the method of their transfer.

This development comes amid severely strained relations between Kabul and Islamabad following recent clashes and attacks in Bajaur and other border areas. The continuation of such incidents and the absence of transparency in communications have further complicated the security and diplomatic situation between the two sides.
