Pakistan Summons Afghan Diplomat Over Bajaur Attack, Demands Action on Militants

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it has summoned the deputy ambassador of Afghanistan in Islamabad following a recent armed attack in Bajaur. During the meeting, Pakistan handed over an official note of protest and expressed deep concern over the recent security incidents.

According to Pakistani officials, the attack occurred on February 16 against security forces in Bajaur, resulting in the death of 11 Pakistani soldiers. Bajaur is a tribal region bordering Afghanistan that has experienced insecurity in recent years.

The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry claimed that leaders of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are present and active on Afghan soil. However, the Taliban administration has consistently denied such allegations, describing them as baseless.

Tahir Andarabi, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated that continued incidents like these could negatively impact bilateral relations and regional stability. He called on Afghanistan to take “effective and tangible” measures against armed groups based in its territory.

Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have been strained in recent years due to security concerns. The Taliban administration has previously emphasized that it will not allow Afghan soil to be used against other countries. Nevertheless, ongoing similar attacks raise questions about the management of security and prevention of militant activities inside Afghanistan.
